One of my favorite quotes comes from Paul Klee who said “A drawing is simply a line going for a walk”. This summer as you travel take a sketchbook with you and a simple #2 pencil or your ballpoint pen! Sketching does not need to be complicated nor do you have to be an “artist” to sketch. I like to do a combination as I travel. I pick up a postcard here and there and use a glue stick to attach it in my sketchbook. I doodle and sketch around the postcard, add words in my hotel room at the end of the day.

Sometimes if there is time I sketch on location during the day, usually on 5 or ten minutes worth! Simplicity is the word you don’t have to be a Rembrandt. Attach train tickets, parts of brochures, fancy chocolate wrappers that all remind you of that day on your trip. Also a good option is a little pair of folding scissors in you checked bag for cutting up brochure and other printed free materials. So pack a sketchbook, glue stick and pencil or pen and you are all ready to go this summer!
Maybe I should try this! Tried to make a comment by clicking on your page and just got ads for the last thing I purchased on-line. Maddening. Ready for your Maine trip? I got out my big bag today, need to check what winter stuff to take to the far north. Since June essentially ‘disappeared’, I think July will go even faster. Happy Travels, Love, Dot
